Ever tried typing notes in a video call and totally zoned out on what people were saying? If my boss is reading this, no, never. But if that’s happened to you, Google now has your back. They just dropped a new Google Meet feature called "Take notes for me", which is one of the best features of Google Workspace available.
You might be thinking, "Google has recorded meetings before, right?" Well, yes, since 2024, if your business has a Google Workspace. Now, “Take notes for me” in Google Meet is available for individual Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers. If you’re not sure which plan you have, go to your Google Account subscriptions page and find your current Google plan. To upgrade, you can visit the Google One or Google Workspace website and choose Google AI Pro or Ultra. Upgrading is usually as simple as following the prompts and selecting your new plan.

Why this is Google Workspace’s best feature
This transcription is much smarter than traditional transcriptions. In the past, Google could just turn your meeting into a giant wall of text that you had to read through yourself. Take notes for me uses Gemini to listen to the conversation and pick out the important parts. It will even automatically make a list of "to-do" items and write a neat summary for you. It turns a long, messy meeting into a short, easy-to-read document that saves automatically to your Google Drive. Google processes your meeting data securely, and notes are shared only with meeting participants. You can control who has access to your meeting notes, and your data is handled in accordance with Google's privacy policies, so your information stays protected.
This feature is also a massive win for workplace inclusivity. I’m someone who struggles to retain information when spoken to, so having all the details written down so I can refer back to them later is really helpful. It even makes sure that team members who might struggle with traditional note-taking—due to language barriers, different learning styles, or simply being overwhelmed by the pace of a meeting—don't miss out on vital context.
How to use it
Got Google AI Pro or Ultra? You can try it right now:
On your computer, just click the pencil icon at the top of the screen during a call to turn it on. It works on desktop for now, but check your app for updates if you’re on a mobile. Want it on every call? Flip the switch in your Google Meet settings under "Meeting records."
Everyone in the meeting gets a heads-up that AI is taking notes. It’s a lifesaver if you hate frantic typing.
